TPSB LEVEL 2 TRAINING COURSE
TPSB LEVEL 2 TRAINING COURSE
This is the introductory class that everyone must take if they want to work security in Texas. It is a 4-hour mandatory class that goes over the basics of security:
- Prevention and Deterrence
- Ethics
- Perception of the officer
- Liaison between the Police and Client
- Observation and Reporting
- Emergency Response
- Offenses and Arrest
- Types of offenses
- Radio Procedures
- Report Writing
- Conflict Resolution
- Texas Penal Code
LEVEL III
ARMED SECURITY OFFICER TRAINING
LEVEL III
ARMED SECURITY OFFICER TRAINING
TPSB LEVEL 3 TRAINING COURSE
TPSB LEVEL 3 TRAINING COURSE
This is a 45-hour class in which you must pass a written test and firearms qualification to become certified to carry a firearm while working security.
The class includes:
- Classroom instruction
- Physical instruction on handcuffing
- Holds and restraints
- Weapon retention
- Range qualification
The students will spend half of one day at the shooting range and pass a shooting test to qualify to carry a firearm. You must qualify with the style of weapon you plan on carrying. If you shoot a semiautomatic pistol and pass the shooting test then you can carry that type in any caliber you choose but not less than a 9 mm.
If you choose to carry a shotgun then you must qualify with a shotgun as well.
Once you complete this course and pass’s both the firing range and written exam with passing scores you will receive a certificate of completion.

LEVEL IV
PERSONAL PROTECTION OFFICER TRAINING
LEVEL IV
PERSONAL PROTECTION OFFICER TRAINING
TPSB LEVEL 4 (PPO) TRAINING COURSE
TPSB LEVEL 4 (PPO) TRAINING COURSE
Level IV is the training required to receive a Personal Protection Officer endorsement
In this fifteen hour course students will learn:
Concepts in Personal Protection
Body Guarding Strategies
The Use of Force Continuum
Unarmed Defensive Tactics
Upon completion of the Level IV training, students will need to complete the following:
MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory) administered by a licensed psychiatrist
Must have a Security Officer Commission, or be applying for one at the time applying for PPO

Re-Qualification consists of 8 hours with classroom instruction and range qualification.
Officer must qualify with the firearm they will be carrying while on duty
Once you complete this course and pass’s both the firing range and written exam with passing scores you will receive a certificate of completion.

This is the combined class consisting of level 2 and level 3 complete training. It is a 50-hour class that covers all training listed above for level 2 and level 3:
